Performance

The technology that enables connectivity of the device, e.g. wired or wireless.

Connectivity technology

USB connectivity

What type of USB connector is built into the device.

USB connector

Bluetooth is a low-power radio technology developed to replace the cables and wires currently used to link or connect electronic devices such as personal computers, printers, and a wide variety of handheld devices including mobile phones. Because it uses radio-wave connectivity, a Bluetooth-enabled device has a constant, established connection to whatever browser it uses. This saves the user the trouble of logging on to check for emails or news updates, for example.

Bluetooth

The wireless communication standards supported by the device to ensure compatibility with different types of audio or data services (e.g., A2DP for high-quality audio streaming).

Bluetooth profiles

The type of bluetooth technology in the product e.g. Bluetooth Smart (v4.0).

Bluetooth version

The range of audio frequencies that the device can effectively reproduce when set to music mode, measured in Hz.

Frequency response (music mode)

The range of audio frequencies the device can effectively reproduce when configured for voice communication, measured in Hz.

Frequency response (talk mode)

The maximum distance over which the device can maintain a stable wireless connection, typically measured in metres.

Wireless range

Ports & interfaces

The highest amount of electrical power that can be safely supplied to the device, measured in mW.

Maximum input power

Ear coupling describes the way in which headphones or earphones stay attached to, or inside, the ear. There are three common types of ear coupling: circumaural, supra-aural and intra-aural. Circumaural headphones enclose your ears with large pads that suppress external noise. Supra-aural headphones are typically more lightweight and sit on top of the ears with small pads. Intra-aural headphones come in two basic designs and neither style sits on the head itself. The first are ear buds, which sit just outside of the ear canal, on top of your ear lobes. The second type is actually inserted directly into the ear canal and offers some external noise suppression.

Ear coupling

The range of frequencies (low to high sounds) that the headphones can produce.

Headphone frequency

The effective resistance of an electric circuit or component to alternating current, arising from the combined effects of ohmic resistance and reactance.

Impedance

The measure of how efficiently the unit converts an electrical signal into sound, typically expressed in decibels per millivolt (dB/mW).

Headphone sensitivity

The diameter of the internal diaphragm responsible for producing sound, measured in millimetres.

Driver unit

Indicates whether the device features technology to reduce unwanted ambient sounds.

Noise canceling

The technology used to reduce unwanted ambient sound, such as Active, Adaptive, or Passive noise cancellation.

Noise canceling type

Indicates whether the device features technology to reduce unwanted background noise.

Noise reduction

Indicates whether the device allows ambient sound to pass through the earcups so the user can hear their surroundings.

HearThrough

Headphones

The characteristics of the microphone bulit into the device in terms of the reception of signals from all or just one direction, i.e. omnidirectional (better for concerts and the like vs unidirectional, more suitable for voice recording.

Rechargeable battery

The total time a battery can power a device for calls. As the device drains the battery during a call, the talktime left in the battery is diminished until the device is turned off or the battery recharged. The longer the talktime the less frequently you will need to recharge. Talktime, expressed in hours and minutes, is much shorter than standby time because transmission requires more power.
